Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon Reality Elite, the successor to its XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, targeting the next wave of smart glasses and XR headsets debuting at AWE 2026. The new silicon promises up to 60% faster GPU, 30% quicker CPU and 160% stronger NPU performance, while keeping devices up to 12 °C cooler and extending battery life by roughly 20% for consumer wearables.

On the AI front, the platform delivers 48 TOPS for on‑device inference, enough to run large‑language and vision models directly on the glasses. Qualcomm says this capability will enable photorealistic avatars, real‑time translation and spatial computing without relying on cloud services. Graphics support reaches 4.4K per eye at 90 fps, with improved video‑passthrough that reduces latency and sharpens image quality.

First devices slated to adopt the chipset include Xreal’s Project Aura and the upcoming Play For Dream glasses, while Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon START program offers reference designs to accelerate development. By consolidating high‑end AI and graphics into a single mobile‑class chip, manufacturers can finally deliver immersive XR experiences that were previously limited to tethered or heavyweight systems in the near term.
