Vertigo Games Closes Amsterdam VR Studio, Embracer Group Turbulence Persists

Vertigo Games has shut its Amsterdam studio, a move revealed by CEO Richard Stitselaar on X. The decision follows years of turbulence for the parent Embracer Group, which laid off thousands and sold Gearbox in a fire‑sale. The Dutch studio, once Force Field Entertainment, closed after careful consideration today.

Founded in 2015, the Amsterdam site grew into a Vertigo branch in 2021. Its teams, linked to Guerrilla Games, crafted VR titles like Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow and Star Trek: Bridge Crew. The closure reduces Vertigo’s Dutch presence to a single Rotterdam office for remaining staff in the future.

Vertigo’s Rotterdam studio, known for Arizona Sunshine, remains operational but its future role is unclear. With 150 employees company‑wide, the move underscores the VR market’s fragile ecosystem. Stakeholders now face uncertainty over talent redistribution and project continuity across the two remaining sites.

Consumers who invested in Vertigo’s VR titles may see support changes. The company has not announced plans to shift services, leaving players to seek or wait for releases from Rotterdam.
