Spotify has confirmed it is no longer running recruitment advertisements for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). A spokesperson told Variety that the ads stopped in late 2025, clarifying they were part of a broader US government recruitment campaign that ran across major media platforms. This announcement follows recent controversy surrounding an ICE agent fatally shooting Renee Good in Minneapolis.

However, the decision also addresses significant backlash the streaming giant faced in late 2025. Users and music labels had aggressively criticized Spotify for airing ads with slogans like 'join the mission to protect America' and offers of $50,000 signing bonuses. These ads appeared on the ad-supported tier, sparking boycott campaigns.

While Spotify initially defended the content as policy-compliant, financial disclosures reveal the revenue generated was minimal. Rolling Stone reported Spotify received only $74,000 from Homeland Security for the campaign. In stark contrast, tech giants like Google and Meta earned millions from similar government contracts, highlighting the varying scale and public impact of these advertising partnerships.
