Spotify Adds Universal Video Toggle to Silence TikTok-Style Clips

Spotify is rolling out a universal video toggle allowing users to silence all video content across its app. This feature, found in Settings > Content and display, gives users granular control: one switch silences music videos, another mutes all other videos like podcasts and artist clips, while the existing Canvas toggle manages video loops on the Now Playing screen. The toggle applies universally across all platforms and can be managed for family accounts. 70 percent of Spotify users reportedly favor more video, yet the company acknowledges some users find the app 'TikTok-ified' and want a simpler music experience.

The move responds to user feedback seeking less distraction while streaming. Spotify's video expansion began in 2018 with Canvas loops, followed by podcasts in 2020 and music videos in 2024 (US launch delayed until late last year). Artist clips, 30-second vertical videos, also debuted.

The new toggle offers a straightforward way to revert to a video-light experience.
