More troubling, discontinued security updates leave them vulnerable to hacking, malware spread, and recruitment into botnet armies. Recent international operations disrupted botnets infecting over three million devices.

The mounting graveyard of unsupported smart appliances reveals a harsh truth: ownership doesn't guarantee functionality. Consumers pay premium prices for features that may vanish within years, while inheriting security risks that threaten entire home networks. Until manufacturers establish clearer support commitments, smart fridge buyers should weigh convenience against potential long-term costs.
