Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless review: sound, ANC upgrades justify price

Sennheiser finally refreshed its flagship over‑ear line with the Momentum 5 Wireless, arriving four years after the Momentum 4. The new model upgrades the driver tuning and active‑noise cancellation while keeping the 60‑hour battery life that made the previous version popular. A user‑replaceable battery and a modest redesign aim to extend the product’s lifespan, and supports a 3.5 mm jack for wired listening.

Design tweaks include textured silver logo discs on the headband and a seamless ear‑cup shell, giving the headphones a more premium feel. Controls remain on the right cup, with a touch panel for playback, ANC level and a two‑finger gesture that toggles Dolby Atmos. Connectivity ships with Bluetooth 5.4, promising a Bluetooth 6.0 update. The app also lets you fine‑tune EQ with eight bands.

The 42 mm drivers, derived from the open‑back HD 600, deliver clearer instrument separation and a tighter bass response that shines on complex mixes. ANC now uses four microphones per side, reportedly three times more effective at blocking voices. Priced higher than the Momentum 4, the Momentum 5 earns an 8.5/10 rating, confirming Sennheiser’s claim that the wait was worthwhile. It also includes a USB‑C port for fast charging.
