Saw: Genesis Brings Multiplayer Horror with Jigsaw Predecessor

Bloober Team is bringing the Saw franchise to interactive horror with Saw: Genesis, a 3-on-1 survival game heading to Steam Early Access in 2026. Players either become the Judge setting deadly traps or join three Accused trying to escape increasingly sadistic scenarios. The premise reimagines Jigsaw's origins in a post-WWI setting where psychological manipulation meets physical torture.

Gameplay splits four players into asymmetric roles across procedurally generated levels. The Judge wields tools like hallucinogenic gas, paralytic toxins, and secret passages to torment victims, while the Accused must cooperate to solve challenges and collect keys before time expires. Failed trap escapes require sacrificing body parts or relying on teammates for rescue, with permanent consequences that carry between matches.

Development duties fall to Anshar Studios with support from Bloober's publishing arm Broken Mirror Games. This marks Bloober Team's expansion into game publishing, following their earlier announcement of I Hate This Place. The co-development model reflects their strategy of backing select horror titles with additional resources.

The multiplayer horror format draws clear parallels to Red Barrels' The Outlast Trials, which proved audiences crave social dread experiences. Saw: Genesis aims to carve its own niche with the franchise's signature moral complexity and physical consequences for player choices.
