Roblox's new age verification system is already failing spectacularly just days after launch. According to a Wired report, the AI-powered tool misidentifies users constantly, classifying children as adults and adults as children. This chaotic rollout was meant to curb a growing child predator crisis on the platform.

The mandatory selfie scans and optional ID checks were a direct response to mounting lawsuits and criminal subpoenas from states like Louisiana and Texas. Roblox hoped to restrict chats to age-appropriate groups, but the execution is proving disastrous. Parents accidentally verifying kids as 21+ only compounds the security nightmare.

Developers are furious, flooding forums with complaints as chat usage reportedly plummeted from 90% to 36.5%. Users are already gaming the flawed system, using photos of Kurt Cobain or drawn-on wrinkles to bypass checks. With games described as "lifeless," Roblox faces immense pressure to fix this without alienating its massive user base.
