Reddit is imposing new restrictions on Old Reddit and cutting off RSS support to combat AI scraping. The company announced that in the next few months, it will limit access to Old Reddit for logged-in users to only those who have used the classic layout in the last six months. New accounts will be barred, and existing users who haven't used Old Reddit for six months will also lose access. Logged-in moderators are exempt from the recent usage requirement.
Last month, Reddit restricted Old Reddit to logged-in users, saying more changes were needed. The company says this has already reduced automated abuse. CEO Steve Huffman has said his "dream" is to recreate Old Reddit's UI on a modern foundation. Reddit is also phasing out RSS feeds, effective November 13, citing them as a common surface for scraping. The company thanked RSS users but noted the change is necessary to fight abuse.
