Nintendo has released a surprise Switch 2 version of *Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition*, bringing enhanced performance to one of its most technically demanding games. The update delivers 4K resolution and 60fps performance when docked, addressing performance issues that plagued the original Switch version. The sprawling sci-fi RPG, originally released for Wii U in 2015, features an enormous open world that pushed the original hardware to its limits.

Titled *Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition*, the game carries a $65 price tag for new purchases, with existing owners able to upgrade for $5 through the eShop. A physical version arrives April 16. This marks the final major Xenoblade title to receive Switch 2 optimization, following the earlier Definitive Editions of the first game and *Xenoblade Chronicles 2*. The series is known for its MMO-like hybrid combat system and standalone storylines, making it accessible to newcomers.

The Switch 2 version arrives nearly a year after the original Switch release, which itself was significant as the final major first-party game before the new console's June launch. While the graphical improvements are welcome, the paid upgrade model may frustrate some fans who already purchased the game last year. The enhanced version showcases the Switch 2's capabilities while highlighting the challenges of porting technically ambitious games to Nintendo's aging hardware.
