A new social platform called Twitter has launched, led by former Twitter legal counsel Stephen Coates and backed by Operation Bluebird. The site, at Twitter.now, features a blue bird logo and aims to be a non-X alternative. Coates argues the Twitter name and IP were abandoned when Elon Musk renamed the company X in 2022.

The launch comes as a federal judge in Delaware weighs a preliminary injunction in a trademark lawsuit filed by X Corp. In an April ruling, Judge Colm Connolly noted X had not shown credible evidence of use of the 'tweet' or bird logo. Coates says the ruling gave them the go-ahead.

The new Twitter charges a one-time $20 fee for 'founder' status, which is half the cost of X Premium+. It also uses an AI tool called Vera to fact-check posts. However, Vera is still in early stages and has bugs, like blocking innocuous posts. Coates says the platform is not affiliated with X Corp. and aims to offer a better model than current social media.
