NASA Sets March 6 for Artemis 2 Moon Mission Launch

NASA has set a target launch date of March 6 for the Artemis 2 mission, marking humanity's return to lunar orbit after more than 50 years. The 10-day mission will send four astronauts around the Moon aboard the Orion spacecraft, testing critical life support systems as a precursor to future lunar landings.

This milestone follows a successful wet dress rehearsal on Thursday at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where engineers fueled the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with over 700,000 gallons of liquid propellant. The rehearsal included two complete terminal count sequences, despite a brief communications glitch that was resolved by switching to backup systems. NASA engineers identified and addressed the equipment issue that caused the disruption.

Artemis 2 crew members will enter quarantine on Friday ahead of their historic journey. The mission represents NASA's first crewed flight beyond Earth orbit since the Apollo era and will travel further into space than any humans have gone before. While the March 6 date is NASA's earliest possible launch window, additional preparations including a flight-readiness review and launch pad work remain before liftoff can occur.
