Motorola has launched a new free Android app, Indigenous Collections, developed in collaboration with the Rainy Lake Ojibwe community. The app aims to preserve the Ojibwe language, stories, landmarks, and family knowledge.

Key collaborators include Ojibwe language instructor Jason Jones and Dr. Anton Treuer, an author and Professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University. The app, available on the Google Play Store, will feature only publicly shared cultural knowledge.

Dr. Treuer highlighted the app's value in preserving Ojibwe stories, calling it an "effective way to transmit language, cultural knowledge, worldview, and community history." He anticipates future story additions will enhance the project's long-term significance.

This initiative is part of Motorola's larger Indigenous Languages Initiative, a partnership with the Lenovo Foundation. Together, they work with indigenous communities to digitize and preserve languages, making modern smartphone technology more accessible to indigenous speakers.
