MindsEye Developer Plans DLC to Prove Launch Sabotage

Facing a catastrophic launch, Build a Rocket Boy (BARB) is developing a new *MindsEye* mission titled Blacklist to present evidence of corporate sabotage directly to players. The upcoming multiplayer update and this specific mission are part of a broader strategy to rebuild trust and shift the narrative around the game's disastrous June release, which was plagued by severe bugs and performance issues.

The studio's co-CEO, Lezlie Benzies, had previously told staff that internal and external saboteurs were to blame, leading to layoffs. Now, CEO Mark Gerhard admits the technical failure was the "worst launch in history" but maintains the reputational harm was amplified by orchestrated negativity. He states the studio has gathered very strong evidence following thorough investigations, with the case now handled by authorities in the UK and US.

BARB is also pivoting to self-publishing after splitting with co-publisher IOI Partners, canceling a planned *Hitman* crossover. The long-term vision hinges on the Arcadia platform, hoping the Blacklist DLC will inspire user-generated content. This unconventional approach of litigating a launch failure through in-game content is a high-stakes gamble to reclaim the game's narrative and foster a creative community.

Ultimately, BARB is betting that transparency via gameplay can counter a negative reputation they believe was unfairly manufactured, turning a defensive legal posture into an offensive community-building tool.
