The Social Media Victims Law Center (SMVLC) has filed a personal injury and wrongful‑death lawsuit against Meta, TikTok, Snap, and Google. The suit claims the companies built addictive and dangerous platforms that contributed to the deaths of four children. SMVLC alleges the firms ignored warnings from their own researchers, concealed evidence of harm, and profiled minors during moments of psychological vulnerability. The lawsuit also accuses the platforms of tracking user behavior to push content such as diet and beauty ads, appearance‑changing filters, and social‑comparison features, which allegedly led to depression, self‑harm, and suicidal ideation.

The four deaths occurred between July 2024 and September 2025 in Texas, North Carolina, Minnesota, and Tennessee. SMVLC filed the case in Delaware after internal documents from the platforms were unsealed in state and federal proceedings. A Google spokesperson said the company is reviewing the claims and reiterated its commitment to safer experiences for young people.

The suit follows other legal actions, including a summer state lawsuit against Meta and separate settlements by Meta, Snap, and TikTok over social‑media addiction claims filed by a Kentucky school district.
