Lyft has officially introduced teen accounts for ages 13 to 17, allowing teenagers to request their own rides while maintaining parental oversight. This new feature mirrors Uber's existing platform and includes real-time ride tracking, pickup and drop-off notifications, and direct communication with drivers.

Parents or guardians can monitor every ride through the app and manage account settings. The service implements enhanced safety measures including annual background checks for drivers, mandatory PIN verification for teens, and default audio recording of all rides. Lyft requires drivers to meet "the highest standards" with proven safe driving records and positive passenger interactions.

The teen accounts feature is currently available in 200 markets including New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami. Lyft plans to expand to additional cities throughout the year. This launch represents the company's effort to compete with Uber while addressing safety concerns specific to younger riders. The PIN verification system, previously tested with adult users, adds an extra layer of security by ensuring the correct rider enters the vehicle.
