LinkedIn Tests AI Slop Reporting Tool

LinkedIn is introducing a new reporting tool to combat what it calls "AI slop" on its platform. Users will be able to flag posts as "seems like AI slop," which will privately alert creators via their analytics dashboard that their content may appear inauthentic or heavily AI-generated. This initiative follows previous efforts to reduce the reach of AI-generated posts and improve detection systems.

According to LinkedIn's Chief Product Officer Hari Srinivasan, posts flagged by this new tool will experience reduced algorithmic reach, similar to content marked "not interested." The company is also removing its prominent "rewrite with AI" feature, acknowledging its role in the proliferation of AI-generated content. A more subdued version will be introduced that focuses on proofreading without altering a user's voice.

This crackdown comes as LinkedIn has been identified as a highly AI-saturated social media platform, with a recent study indicating over 40 percent of longform posts were flagged as fully AI-generated. LinkedIn has also intensified efforts against automated posting, blocking billions of attempts and catching hundreds of thousands of automated comments in recent months.
