iPhone Satellite Location Sharing Guide

Apple's satellite location sharing feature allows iPhone 14 and later models to send location data when cellular and Wi-Fi networks are unavailable. The functionality, available in supported regions, works through the Find My app and is particularly useful for outdoor activities in remote areas. Users must ensure location services are properly configured before relying on this feature in emergency situations.

To share location via satellite, users open the Find My app when no signal exists. The app prompts connecting to a satellite, guiding users to point the device toward the sky. Once connected, selecting the share location option transmits a snapshot of the current position to a predetermined contact. This feature is free for two years after activating an iPhone 14 or later model.

Satellite location sharing has significant limitations compared to standard connectivity. Environmental factors like tree cover or buildings can interfere with the connection. Unlike Emergency SOS, this feature doesn't contact emergency services and is designed for occasional use rather than continuous tracking. Apple recommends practicing the connection procedure in advance to ensure effectiveness when needed.
