Startup Hapware has unveiled Aleye, a haptic wristband that pairs with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses to translate facial expressions into tactile feedback. Announced at CES, this innovation leverages Meta's open platform for third-party developers. The device uses the glasses' computer vision to analyze a conversation partner's expressions and sends corresponding vibration patterns to the user's wrist.

Designed for blind, low-vision, and neurodivergent individuals, Aleye provides a non-intrusive way to access nonverbal communication cues. Unlike Meta's AI voice assistant, which requires constant prompting, Aleye offers real-time, passive feedback. Hapware CEO Jack Walters notes that users can intuitively learn patterns, such as a 'jaw drop' sensation.

The device requires a monthly app subscription, highlighting the growing market for specialized AI accessibility tech that integrates with mainstream hardware.
