Fujifilm Instax Pal 2 plugs into smartphone for image transfer

Fujifilm made its smallest instant camera, the original Instax Pal, by separating the camera sensor from its printer. The new Instax Pal 2 takes the idea even further by becoming more of a standalone digital camera, complete with tactile controls and a collection of downloadable color filters.

The camera's 1.46 x 1.65 x 3.63 inch size means it's not small enough for a keychain, but it works under a similar philosophy: People will sacrifice image quality for a fun, tactile shooting experience. The Pal 2 features a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor that toggles between 10MP or 1MP photos, with an f/2.2 aperture and LED flash.

The camera includes both an optical viewfinder and a digital viewfinder. A lever lets you pick frames matching Instax films, while a dial flips through color filters. You can transfer images directly to your phone via a built-in USB-C connector or wireless Bluetooth, and print to an Instax Link printer.

The biggest issue, per Peta Pixel's review, is how slow its interface is. The Fujifilm Instax Pal 2 is available to pre-order for $170 in all-white or two-tone silver and black.
