France's top court, the Constitutional Council, has struck down a bill that would have banned social media for children under 15. This legislation, which aimed to make France the first European country with such a ban, was blocked because it would require all users, including adults, to prove their age without specifying how. Despite this setback, President Emmanuel Macron has ordered Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu to rewrite the legislation, addressing the court's concerns. Macron has repeatedly expressed his support for the ban, signaling that it will likely be revisited. The proposed French law is similar to a ban in Australia, which restricts access for those under 16 and has faced legal challenges. Several other countries, including Denmark and the UK, are also considering similar measures, while Canada has introduced a bill for those under 16. Some U.S. states have proposed legislation that requires parental consent rather than outright bans.
