Google has unveiled the Fitbit Edge, its latest smartwatch for tracking health, sleep and fitness. Priced at $180, the Edge sits as a middle ground between a simple tracker and full smartwatch, compared to the $99.95 Fitbit Inspire 3. The Edge features a larger AMOLED display, a 100 percent recycled aluminum case, and built-in GPS for 40 percent more accurate tracking without needing a smartphone. It also supports Bluetooth 5.4 for direct headphone connectivity and Quick Replies for messages. The Inspire 3 remains a more affordable, rectangular plastic option with basic notifications.

Both wearables support continuous activity tracking, but the Edge was designed for more exercise types and will automatically detect 100 different movement activities. Google says the Edge can track over 50 exercise modes, while the Inspire 3 tracks 20. The Edge offers advanced health insights including cardio load, target cardio load, floors climbed, and heart rate during workouts. It also provides monthly blood pressure and insulin resistance data. In contrast, the Inspire 3 features an optical heart rate monitor, blood oxygen tracker, and accelerometer.

Battery life differs significantly between the two devices. The Edge lasts up to a week on a single charge, while the Inspire 3 can last up to 10 days. Both devices are water-resistant and support app notifications. The Edge comes in four stock colors plus a Steph Curry edition, whereas the Inspire 3 offers three stock colors. The Inspire 3 is 44 percent cheaper than the base Edge model, making it the more budget-friendly choice for basic fitness tracking needs.
