Hoymiles has launched the Hi Flow Pro microinverter, the first plug-in solar device in the US to comply with the UL 3700 safety standard. This development aims to make solar energy more accessible for renters and apartment dwellers.

Previously, a key concern with plug-in solar systems was the risk of backfeeding electricity into the grid during outages, endangering utility crews. The UL 3700 standard, adopted in December 2025, addresses these safety concerns, including preventing accidental overloads.

While not sufficient to power an entire home, these microinverters offer a way to reduce reliance on the grid. The establishment of a federal safety standard opens up solar adoption possibilities for individuals in apartments or rental properties who cannot install traditional rooftop solar panels.
