Fender Mix Headphones Review: Premium Design Falls Short on Sound and Features

Fender Mix headphones offer a bold modular design and long battery life, but their bass-heavy tuning and lack of modern smart features hold them back from greatness. Fender Audio, licensing the iconic brand, positions these over-ear cans as a premium alternative to Sony, Bose, and Sennheiser at a $299 price point. The standout feature is the swappable ear pads, cups, and headband via USB-C ports, allowing users to change the look and potentially the acoustics.

A removable battery and a hidden lossless Bluetooth dongle enhance convenience and audio quality, delivering up to 52 hours with ANC. However, the stock sound profile is overly bass-driven, muddying balanced genres like jazz and bluegrass despite improvements in lossless mode. Crucially, the headphones lack an app for EQ adjustments, adaptive ANC, and wear detection, and their call quality is merely adequate, struggling with background noise.

While the design is innovative, the compromises in tuning and missing features make the Mix a tough sell at its current price.
