The U.S. Department of Justice has reached a $3.2 million settlement with OpenAI and a subsidiary over allegations of hiring discrimination. The DOJ stated that OpenAI allegedly preferred workers with temporary employment visas over potential U.S. workers and failed to properly advertise job openings to the domestic labor market.

According to the DOJ's investigation, OpenAI did not post certain roles on its external jobs website, required paper applications for some positions, and advertised others "on the radio late at night." As part of the agreement, OpenAI will post jobs on its public site, accept electronic applications, and provide training on anti-discrimination policies.

The settlement includes $1.2 million in civil penalties and $2 million to establish a back-pay fund for alleged victims. This case follows similar settlements involving tech companies like Meta and Apple, highlighting the DOJ's scrutiny of hiring practices related to foreign worker programs.
