Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord, a new animated series starring the iconic Sith Lord, will premiere on Disney+ with two episodes on April 6, 2026. The 10-episode show picks up after Maul's arc in The Clone Wars but before his appearance in Rebels. Lucasfilm confirms the plot follows his attempt to rebuild a criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.

Creator Dave Filoni, now Lucasfilm President, is steering the project. The series introduces a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may become Maul's new apprentice in his quest for revenge. This fits Filoni's pattern of expanding existing Star Wars lore, a strategy that has defined his leadership since taking over from Kathleen Kennedy.

This release arrives as Disney and Lucasfilm navigate a challenging period for the franchise. After the sequel trilogy concluded in 2019, the studio has relied heavily on animated spin-offs and Mandalorian-related projects. The studio has two films upcoming: The Mandalorian and Grogu in May 2026 and Star Wars: Starfighter in 2027.
