Crazy Taxi World Tour Revival Announced by Sega

Sega is reviving Crazy Taxi as Crazy Taxi World Tour, part of its strategy to remaster classic franchises for modern audiences. The game retains the core arcade formula of chaotic passenger transport while expanding into a more open, vibrant world with dynamic traffic and pedestrian-filled streets. Creator Kenji Kanno serves as creative producer, ensuring the essence of reckless driving remains intact.

World Tour introduces significant changes for contemporary players, including a story mode and bite-sized missions that break from the original's pure arcade structure. New diversions include time attacks, racing challenges, and absurd side quests like delivering 20 pizzas while airborne, plus a fishing mini-game where players cast lines using the taxi's momentum. These activities can be paused mid-action for seamless continued exploration.

The soundtrack restoration is a priority, addressing licensing issues that plagued PS3 and Xbox 360 ports. While specifics remain under wraps, Sega promises a faithful recreation of the original's iconic tracks. The demo showcased The Offspring's "All I Want" as a placeholder. No firm release date exists, though 2027 marks the target window.

This remaster represents Sega's latest attempt to capitalize on nostalgia while adapting its classics for modern gaming expectations. Whether the expanded structure can match the original's focused intensity remains to be seen.
