Commodore Cuts Retro Flip Phone Price to $399 Before Preorders

Commodore is making its entry into the phone market with the retro-inspired Callback 8020 flip phone. The company announced that preorders will begin on June 30, with pricing now starting at $399 instead of the originally planned $500. Four color variants - BASIC Beige, Proto PET White, SX Silver, and Starlight Edition - all receive this discount.

The $100 price reduction comes with tradeoffs. Base models will no longer include Hi-Def IEM earphones and will ship with secondhand memory chips instead of new ones. However, both earphones and premium memory upgrades remain available. Notably, Commodore provides the same one-year warranty on both refurbished and new components.

The Founders Edition model retains its $640 price tag due to its 24-karat gold plating. Commodore cited overwhelming global response to the Callback and customer feedback requesting more accessible pricing as motivations for the change. The company worked with partners over the past week to achieve this lower entry point while maintaining product integrity.

This price adjustment arrives amid broader industry trends of rising costs, particularly with recent Apple and Xbox product pricing increases. For consumers interested in nostalgic design with modern privacy features, the Callback 8020 now presents a more financially approachable option in the retro phone market.
