CD Projekt Red (CDPR) joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski has announced that the highly anticipated sequel, The Witcher 4, is targeting a release in 2028. Describing the project as their "biggest, boldest and most ambitious game to date," Nowakowski acknowledged the long wait since the initial announcement in 2022. He urged fans to let the team finish development properly, stating, "let the team cook."

The studio will not be showcasing The Witcher 4 at the upcoming Gamescom event starting August 26. Instead, CDPR plans to reveal significant details about The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past expansion. This third major expansion arrives ten years after the previous one and is scheduled for release in 2027.

Nowakowski invited the community to join them at Gamescom to hear more about the future of the franchise, including a preview of the new expansion's dark story and content. While players may desire an earlier launch for the fourth installment, the company aims to ensure high quality upon release, learning from past experiences with Cyberpunk 2077.
