Bungie announced its extraction shooter Marathon will launch on March 5, 2026, ending an indefinite delay. The studio released a new gameplay trailer and opened pre-orders for a deluxe edition on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. All versions will support crossplay, letting friends play together regardless of platform.

The release date leaked early after Microsoft published a pre-order trailer prematurely. Sony, Bungie's parent company, had previously promised a March launch but withheld the exact date. This follows a turbulent development cycle, including a delay from an original September 2025 target after a mixed alpha reception and Bungie's admission it had partially plagiarized visual assets.

The game's arrival is critical for Bungie's future. In November, Sony wrote down the studio's assets by $204 million, citing underperformance from Destiny 2 and its decision to exert more direct control. With Marathon's success now pivotal, its performance will directly shape the studio's trajectory within Sony's gaming portfolio.
