Apple to spend $30B on Broadcom US chips

Apple announced a $30 billion purchase of wireless chips made in the United States from Broadcom, a move that will lock large volumes of custom components into Apple’s supply chain.

The deal calls for $1.5 billion to upgrade Broadcom’s Fort Collins, Colorado plant, where the company will build “advanced radio frequency components.” Apple will receive a line of custom chips for a wide range of its products, including the proprietary FBAR Filters used to isolate specific wireless bands. Broadcom is expected to ship 15 billion U.S.-made chips, although the contract does not spell out every product.

Broadcom outsources most production to third‑party foundries such as TSMC, so the Colorado investment representsJane the first U.S. manufacturing footprint the company has built for Apple. The arrangement reduces Apple’s reliance on overseas suppliers and shields스럽 the company from tariff risks that emerged last year when the U.S. government tightened rules on imported electronics.

For consumers, the shift should translate into more reliable connectivity and potentially lower unit costs, while the industry sees a clear signal that U.S. chip makers can secure high‑volume contracts with major OEMs.
