Apple commits $30bn to Broadcom for US-made chips

Apple pledged $30bn over five years to buy billions of US‑made chips from Broadcom, the largest single commitment under its $600bn US spending promise made to the Trump administration.

The agreement backs a $1.5bn expansion of Broadcom’s manufacturing plant in Fort Collins, Colorado, with Apple expecting 15bn chips to be produced there.

Chief executive Tim Cook thanked the White House for supporting the project, while Apple continues to build an end‑to‑end silicon supply chain alongside TSMC in Arizona, Texas Instruments in Texas and GlobalFoundries in New York.

The deal gives Broadcom a predictable revenue stream, reduces Apple’s exposure to potential tariffs on Asian‑assembled devices, and signals that the iPhone maker will keep final assembly overseas while moving high‑value chip production domestically.
