Apple Screen Sharing Bug Now in the Wild

Apple released macOS security updates to address a serious vulnerability in its Screen Sharing tool. At the time the bug had not been spotted spreekt in the wild, but it is now being used in the Netherlands. The flaw lets attackers view a user’s screen, open files and act as if they had physical possession of the machine. Dutch officials warned that the vulnerability had been used on multiple systems, giving attackers root access and uploading crypto‑mining software.

If Screen Sharing is enabled, any network attacker can exploit the bug to log in as any account, without knowing the password. Apple’s patch for macOS 26.6.1 was reverse‑engineered to understand the issue, and new versions of Tahoe, Sequoia and Sonoma are available. The vulnerability is listed as CVE‑2026‑65400. It is an absolute necessity to install the update.

Prevent this type of attack by blocking Apple’s Screen Sharing tool entirely in System Settings, or by keeping port 5900 closed when the service is active. Users should immediately update to the latest macOS releases. Apple is not the only company with a screen‑sharing bug; Zoom also experienced a similar issue and issued a patch. Stay safe.
