Apple will begin requiring developers to complete new age rating questions via App Store Connect starting November 16. The updates target apps enabling dating between real people or AI companions engaging in sexual or romantic content. All such apps will receive a minimum age rating of 18+, preventing access for users under 18 when parental controls are active.
Download attempts by minors will require age verification. Additionally, developers must disclose if their apps share real-world user locations. While most regions are unaffected, Brazil mandates a 16+ rating for location-sharing apps.
Developers have until January 12, 2027, to update all existing applications with the new disclosures.
