Apple delays Siri AI rollout in EU over regulatory clash

Apple confirmed that its next‑gen Siri AI and broader Apple Intelligence suite will not ship in the European Union with iOS 27 or iPadOS 27. The delay stems from a clash with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which demands near‑unlimited device access for AI systems. Apple’s senior VP Craig Federighi said regulators have not offered a constructive path forward, leaving the rollout timeline open.

Developers targeting EU users lose the ability to test Siri AI features on beta builds, a setback for app ecosystems that hoped to integrate the new conversational tools. Apple also announced that Chinese customers will miss the features entirely, citing separate regulatory hurdles. The company proposed a “Trusted System Agent” to mediate access, but the European Commission rejected the plan.

While EU iPhone and iPad owners must wait, the upgraded Siri will still arrive on macOS 27, visionOS 27 and watchOS 27, giving Apple a partial foothold in the region. The impasse highlights the tension between ambitious AI integration and privacy‑centric legislation, currently forcing the tech giant to redesign its rollout strategy rather than deliver a unified experience across all platforms.
