Apple has laid off employees in its Vision Pro and Siri teams as it shifts focus to smart glasses and next-gen AI tech, Bloomberg's [PERSON_NAME] reported. The cuts are said to affect around 200 workers, with 100 cuts in the headset division and another 100 in the software group. The layoffs focus largely on gaming and immersive video teams, as Apple decided the high cost of producing such content isn't justified given the limited user base.

Meanwhile, software cuts target teams working on the old version of the assistant, as the new LLM-based system requires different expertise. Apple acknowledged the realignment, noting it will create new roles while committing to support impacted members throughout their transition. The company emphasized the headset and its operating system aren't going away.

A new model remains planned for release as early as 2028. However, with leadership departures and a strategic pivot toward Meta-like smart glasses, cuts to immersive features were likely inevitable after the device launched at $3,699. Engadget has reached out to Apple for comment.
