Toyota has officially launched the 2027 Highlander, marking its first fully electric SUV and the automaker's fourth battery-powered vehicle in the US market. This model stands out as Toyota's inaugural EV assembled domestically and the first three-row electric SUV from the company. While visually similar to its predecessors, the 2027 Highlander features sharper lines and broader fenders. Flush door handles, reminiscent of Tesla's design for aerodynamic efficiency, are included but face a ban in China due to safety concerns.

Toyota will offer the Highlander in Limited and XLE trims with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The Limited all-wheel drive variant with a 95.8 kWh battery achieves Toyota's claimed 320-mile range. However, consumers should note manufacturer estimates can differ from EPA ratings, which are more reliable for cross-brand comparisons. The XLE front-wheel drive model with a 77 kWh battery offers a 287-mile range.

All-wheel drive XLE models provide either 270 miles or the full 320 miles range depending on the battery size. Power output varies, with all-wheel drive models reaching 338 horsepower and front-wheel drive models producing 221 hp. Seven-seat configurations are standard, with the third row folding flat for cargo.

Heated front seats are standard, with ventilated and heated second-row seats available as an option. Toyota plans to begin sales in late 2026, with some regions receiving it early next year, though pricing details will follow closer to launch.
