Apple may be considering adding a Camera Control button to a future iPad

A newly-revealed patent details a button that can be swiped as well as pressed. It's the iPhone's Camera Control button, and it may be coming to the [iPad](https://appleinsider.com/inside/ipad "iPad").

[Introduced in 2024](https://appleinsider.com/inside/iphone-16/tips/iphone-16-camera-control-button——the-ultimate-guide) with the [iPhone 16](https://appleinsider.com/inside/iphone-16 "iPhone 16") range, the Camera Control button has been sufficiently divisive that Apple is even rumored to be [dropping it entirely](https://appleinsider.com/articles/25/08/19/iphone-17-rumored-to-be-the-last-with-camera-control). That's unlikely, if not impossible, and now a [newly-granted](https://ppubs.uspto.gov/api/pdf/downloadPdf/US-12710829-B2?source=USPAT&requestToken=eyJzdWIiOiI5ZDE2MzE5ZC02YzExLTQ1MGUtOGM1My0wMDM1ZTEzZjhlZTciLCJ2ZXIiOiIxMjkxOTJlNS0xZTE3LTQ3ZGMtYThmMS01MjUzZTFkMTY5NTQiLCJleHAiOjB9) patent suggests that Apple at least used to have big plans for the button.

That's big as in the device it would go on. The innocuously-named "Input System for Portable Electronic Device" patent chiefly consists of drawings of iPads.
