LincStation E1 review: Compact entry-level home NAS tested

LincPlus LincStation E1 targets everyday home users, not prosumers, as a compact entry-level NAS. Prosumers should skip it, but it works well for casual home use. It slots below the brand’s earlier S1 and N2 models, which focused on high storage capacity and SSD speed respectively. At 8.6 inches tall by 3.46 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep, it is an unusually small four-bay unit.

The four-bay setup splits into two 3.5-inch SATA slots and two M.2 NVMe bays, supporting up to 76 terabytes of total capacity. SATA drives use tool-free side clamps for 3.5-inch models, while 2.5-inch units need a screw. M.2 installs use spring mechanisms and included thermal pads. A Rockchip 3568 quad-core 2.0GHz chip with 4GB non-upgradable DDR4 RAM and 64GB non-upgradable eMMC storage powers the unit.

Connectivity includes a front USB 3.2 Gen1 port, two rear USB 2.0 ports, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 2.4/5GHz, Bluetooth 5.0, and HDMI 2.1 for 4K60 output. LincOS offers 15 built-in apps, remote access via app or browser, and Docker support (not recommended for this hardware). Built-in AI image search runs slowly. Reviewers tested it with four 24TB WD Red Pro drives, each retailing for $688.
