A Weibo leaker has doubled down on claims first reported in mid-April, suggesting the component has entered production. This would mark the first time an iPhone can physically adjust its aperture opening, mimicking professional camera capabilities.

Unlike traditional smartphone cameras that use fixed apertures, a variable system lets manufacturers control how much light hits the sensor and adjust depth of field in-camera. Users would see more natural bokeh in portraits without relying on computational photography tricks. The rumored "slightly curved aperture" design could produce softer, more aesthetically pleasing background blur.

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup may also feature a 1/1.12-inch main sensor, optical image stabilization for ultra-wide lenses, and a 200MP telephoto camera. However, Digital Chat Station has a spotty record with predictions—previously claiming variable aperture would arrive on the iPhone 17.
