Fire Stick HD upgrade and Aqara sensor demo on Smart Home Insider

Amazon opened this week’s Smart Home Insider podcast with a hardware refresh for its Fire TV line. The Fire Stick HD, priced at $35, now runs on the new Vega OS, delivering roughly 30 % faster performance and drawing power directly from a TV’s USB port. Vega will become the standard firmware across all future Fire devices and includes built‑in Alexa+ for voice‑controlled viewing and smart‑home commands.

Later in the show the hosts demoed the Aqara P100 multi‑sensor, which reports vibration, rotation, drops and taps via Matter‑over‑Thread or Zigbee through an Aqara hub. Practical uses ranged from mail‑delivery alerts to automatically triggering a bathroom exhaust fan when the shower runs. The sensor’s versatility means most installers will need several units to cover an entire home.

The podcast also tackled a common Apple TV headache: mismatched audio between the set‑top box and soundbars. After walking through HDMI‑ARC settings and ensuring the TV outputs Dolby‑Digital, the host achieved synced sound without additional adapters. With the Fire Stick upgrade and Aqara sensor additions, listeners now have concrete fixes for two of the most frequent smart‑home friction points.
