The ChatGPT Classic app for Mac is scheduled to be discontinued on January 30, 2027. Apple has announced that users should migrate to the latest desktop app to access the most recent features and retain their chat history. The classic app, which hasn't received significant updates recently, is being phased out.
This move reflects Apple's push toward a unified desktop experience for ChatGPT across its platforms. Users are being instructed to download and install the new desktop application to ensure they don't lose access to their conversation history. The transition is part of Apple's ongoing strategy to consolidate AI chat interfaces on Mac, providing a more cohesive and updated user experience.
The final day for the Classic app is January 30, 2027, giving users time to make the switch before the app is completely deprecated. Those who haven't upgraded may miss out on new features and improved performance that the desktop version offers.
