Apple Union Protest: Towson Store Workers Rally May 27

Unionized employees at Apple Towson Town Center will rally May 27, 2026, to protest the store's closure and allege discriminatory treatment. The Maryland location was the first Apple Store to unionize with the IAM Union. While Apple cites mall decline for closing this and two other stores, the union argues its members are being treated worse than non-union staff facing layoffs.

Apple attributes the decision to the departure of retailers and deteriorating conditions at several malls, including Towson Town Center. For non-union stores, Apple states staff can continue in their roles at other locations. Conversely, Towson's union employees are told they are 'eligible to apply' elsewhere under the collective bargaining agreement. The union contends this effectively blocks relocation, as no agreement clause mandates such transfers.

The IAM Union has previously filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against Apple with the National Labor Relations Board. The NLRB has already found Apple liable for illegal union-busting. The May 27 rally will begin at 11 a.m. Eastern at Patriot Plaza in Towson, Md., livestreamed on the union's Facebook page, demanding Apple #DoRightApple.
