Apple Tests Live Notes AI for Genius Bar Amid Monitoring Concerns

Apple is testing a new Genius Bar tool called Live Notes that uses AI to transcribe and summarize conversations between employees and customers, according to Bloomberg's "Power On" newsletter. The tool requires permission from both parties and aims to let staff focus on customer interaction rather than note-taking.

However, employees have raised concerns that transcripts could be used for performance monitoring or evaluation. Apple has implemented a policy during testing stating managers do not receive transcripts and employees can edit them, though it remains unclear if these protections will persist after testing concludes. Use of the tool is currently optional with no mandate in place.

Live Notes appears to be related to other internal AI assistants Apple is developing, including Enchante for proofreading and brainstorming, and Enterprise Assistant with a centralized knowledge hub. Both are built on Apple Foundation models. No rollout timeline has been announced, and the feature is expected to remain optional even after full implementation.
