Apple Sets October Release for Everest Drama Tenzing

Apple has set October 9 as the theatrical debut for "Tenzing," its first cinematic release of 2026, with the Everest drama arriving on Apple TV one week later on October 16. The film recounts the 1953 summit through Sherpa Tenzing Norgay's eyes, marking a departure from Western-centric mountaineering narratives.

Genden Phuntsok stars as Norgay opposite Tom Hiddleston's Edmund Hillary, with Willem Dafoe and Caitriona Balfe rounding out the cast. Jennifer Peedom directs from a story she developed with Luke Davies, while Liz Watts and Emile Sherman produce. The TV-PG rated adventure drama explores Norgay's rise from obscure climber to mountaineering legend alongside his wife Dawa's support.

The limited theatrical window serves Apple's established awards-season playbook — qualifying prestige titles for major ceremonies before streaming debut. Expansive Himalayan cinematography also benefits from big-screen presentation. Apple has not disclosed theater counts or international rollout plans beyond the confirmed premiere dates.

"Tenzing" signals Apple's continued investment in historical epics that balance spectacle with underrepresented perspectives, positioning the streamer alongside traditional studios in the prestige film arena while testing whether compressed theatrical windows can still drive awards momentum and subscriber interest in a crowded market.
