Apple Rumored to Launch iPhone Fold 2 and Camera AirPods for 20th Anniversary

Apple is reportedly preparing an ambitious product lineup for late 2027 to mark the iPhone's 20th anniversary. According to Bloomberg, the company plans to release an iPhone 20 with a bezel-free display, a second-generation folding iPhone, and AirPods equipped with cameras. These devices would represent Apple's largest simultaneous product launch to date, though the report includes significant hedging about timelines and specifications.

The camera-equipped AirPods would reportedly place sensors in the stems for forward-facing capture. Apple Intelligence models would process visual data for contextual queries, such as identifying food items in a refrigerator. Sources claim the cameras would include indicator lights and were originally slated for 2026 before delays in AI development pushed them back. The feature appears designed to complement rather than replace iPhone photography capabilities.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously suggested these AirPods might launch as an accessory for Vision Pro, and Apple has already secured patents for the technology. The folding iPhone faces its own challenges, with the first-generation model reportedly delayed despite multiple leak claims targeting a 2026 release. A second-generation version would depend heavily on the success of the initial launch.

The report's skepticism appears warranted given the ambitious scope and reliance on unspecified sources. Apple historically marks major anniversaries with significant releases—the iPhone X in 2017 celebrated the device's tenth year. However, combining multiple unproven technologies in one launch cycle represents uncharted territory for the company's product strategy.
