Apple’s Manufacturing Academy, launched in Detroit in 2025, gathered hundreds of U.S. firms for its first Spring Forum in East Lansing, Michigan. The free program pairs Apple engineers with Michigan State experts to teach small and midsize manufacturers AI, machine‑learning and automation techniques, and discussing real‑world deployment challenges.

Block Imaging, a medical‑imaging refurbisher, showcased its factory floor during the tour, demonstrating how Academy training cut cycle times and improved quality control. Katie Runyon, the firm’s technical‑training director, credited Apple’s curriculum for delivering immediately applicable methods that enhanced service speed for healthcare clients. The event also featured tours of MSU’s Rare Isotope Beam lab and its dairy‑cattle research center.

Since its debut, more than 150 U.S. companies have completed in‑person sessions, and Apple plans virtual modules covering predictive maintenance and quality‑control optimization. Funded as part of Apple’s $600 billion pledge to boost domestic manufacturing, the Academy aims to embed AI across supply chains, giving American firms a practical pathway to higher productivity without relocating production overseas and includes certification for participants.
