Apple Manufacturing Academy hosted its largest Spring Forum yet in East Lansing, Michigan, uniting U.S. manufacturers at Michigan State University to demonstrate AI applications in production. The event featured offsite tours, including a visit to Block Imaging, where the company showcased how academy training improved its medical imaging equipment refurbishment processes. On-campus sessions included talks from McKinsey, Magna, LightGuide, and Medtronic, addressing challenges like scaling AI solutions and physical AI integration. A poster session highlighted student and SMB research.

Block Imaging’s director of Technical Training, Katie Runyon, praised the program’s impact: "The training from Apple engineers and MSU experts gave our team practical tools to enhance workflow and product quality immediately." The forum also included a fireside chat between Apple’s Priya Balasubramaniam and MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz, discussing AI’s role in reshaping manufacturing workforces.

Launched in 2025 as part of Apple’s $500 billion U.S. investment initiative, the free academy pairs Apple engineers with MSU experts to help SMBs adopt AI and smart manufacturing. Now expanded to virtual programming, it has supported over 150 companies nationwide. The initiative emphasizes hands-on learning, with participants returning for continued growth.

This collaboration underscores Apple’s commitment to revitalizing domestic manufacturing through AI. By bridging corporate expertise with academic research, the program aims to strengthen U.S. supply chains while preparing workers for AI-driven industries. The model could influence broader adoption of AI in SMBs, setting a precedent for tech-driven industrial innovation.
