Apple kills Pro Display XDR after 7 years

Apple has discontinued its Pro Display XDR, seven years after its 2019 debut. The $5,000 monitor, which offered a 32-inch 6K nano-texture display, has been replaced by the new Studio Display XDR lineup.

When Apple launched the Pro Display XDR, it marked the company's first monitor in three years and served as a flagship display for creative professionals. The display featured a 6K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and the option for a $6,000 nano-texture glass that reduced glare. It was designed as part of Apple's pro-focused hardware ecosystem alongside the iMac Pro and Intel Mac Pro.

The new Studio Display XDR lineup offers a 120Hz Adaptive Sync screen but shrinks to 27 inches and drops to 5K resolution. While the $300 nano-texture option remains available, the smaller size and lower resolution may push some buyers toward the used market. The Pro Display XDR's seven-year run without updates makes its discontinuation unsurprising, though its unique combination of size and resolution won't be easily replaced.
