Apple, DOJ Discussing Antitrust Case Settlement

Apple and the US Justice Department are reportedly in early discussions to potentially settle the 2024 antitrust lawsuit filed by the Biden administration. While the outcome remains uncertain, both parties appear willing to reach an agreement.

Bloomberg reports that Apple has made multiple offers to the DOJ in 2026 alone. The company previously failed in its bid to dismiss the lawsuit in 2025. The original suit aimed to compel Apple to open the iPhone to new apps and services, similar to the EU's Digital Markets Act.

Key accusations against Apple included preventing "super apps," degrading the iMessage experience, and limiting the interoperability of Apple Watch with non-Apple devices. Apple has since addressed some concerns, such as introducing RCS support and allowing "super apps" in the App Store, which may aid in a settlement.
